The Apostle John recorded that during Jesus's teaching of his disciples the night before his crucifixion he prayed thoroughly and richly to His father with supplications for his apostles and for all his followers. These verses assure us that we are in the world and should remain here, as sojourners, exiles, aliens. Jesus prays for the Father's protection of Jesus's people from the evil one and he assures us that we are in the world - even sent into the world, but, like Jesus, we are not of the world, and we are set apart from the world with the truth, the word that Christ gave us.
