Troubled for Glory - John 12:27-30
Jesus is anticipating his crucifixion in a few days. He asks rhetorically whether he should ask his Father, God, to save him from the hour of death. He answers negatively, teaching that his main purpose is to endure the planned redemptive death, thereby glorifying God in revealing the amazing plan of redemption. Jesus did not look to be saved, but planned to die so we can be saved. Jesus suffered worse than death, the unmitigated wrath of God, so we would not suffer that wrath for eternity in hell. Jesus prayed to the Father that God would glorify himself. God the Father replied audibly, thunderously, that he had glorified himself and that he would again glorify himself, likely meaning Jesus death, resurrection and ascension.
