Blinded by the Light - John 12:37-41
Jesus performed so many signs but still many people did not believe. John in his gospel explains that their unbelief is because they had blind eyes despite a clear revelation. He quotes Isaiah 53:1 and 6:12 to explain these things and then John reflects on the fact that Isaiah saw Jesus in his glory, referring to the great vision of Isaiah in Isaiah 6:1-12. Isaiah had eyes to see and a heart to repent and receive salvation and cleansing, and to proclaim the gospel. In Matthew 13:16 Jesus referring to Isaiah said blesses are those with eyes to see and ears to hear. Many, on the other hand, believed and were saved, even among the authorities.
