For You and Your Children - Acts 2:38-39

Peter's sermon during the pouring out of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost has its cilmax as Peter proclaims the crucifixion of Jesus at the hands of the Jewish crowd resulted in the exaltation of Jesus as Lord and Christ. Peter's sermon is preached in the context of the covenant God made with Abraham and his seed. The sign of that covenant was circumcision marking the covenant people as holy, set apart for the Lord. Those hearing the sermon were cut to the heart and asked how they should respond, and Peter gave the clear answer for them to repent and be baptized. After the redeeming sacrifice of Jesus there is no need for the bloodshed of circumcision and now is replaced as baptism. Baptism, Peter teaches, is for believers and their children.
